By demonstrating quality of care, patient satisfaction, and value, three members of the Caritas Christi family of hospitals ranked among the best in the nation as measured by the Data Advantage Hospital Value Index™.

The Measures

The Hospital Value Index is a comprehensive index that measures the relative value of care that hospitals provide to patients. In 2008, the Hospital Value Index ranked more than 1,500 general acute-care hospitals in America's 100 largest cities, serving approximately 180 million patients, to offer the most comprehensive picture of a hospital's value to date by measuring its success in four key areas:  

  • Quality of its care, including core processes and patient safety
  • Efficiency of its care and affordability, including the prices it charges
  • Experience encountered by its patients as measured by patient satisfaction
  • Comprehensive reputation of a hospital as measured by local public perception

The Results

Three Caritas family hospitals were highlighted in the Hospital Value Index:

In addition, Saint Anne’s Hospital and Carney Hospital in Dorchester were recognized in the Best Kept Secrets hospital rankings, while Good Samaritan Medical Center, Norwood Hospital and Saint Anne’s Hospital were ranked in the 100 Best in Value hospitals in their local markets.

The Methodology

The Hospital Value Index is intended to be a model for hospital performance assessment. In obtaining the necessary data for the index, Data Advantage targeted the 100 largest markets in the United States, each with populations greater than 600,000, identifying 1,500 general acute care hospitals in the markets. Data Advantage is a health care information company that provides health care companies and other businesses with relevant information to assist in improving company strength within its given business community.
