The Kidney and Dialysis Research Laboratory concentrates on patient-oriented translational research efforts, with a focus on leukocyte and cytokine biology in chronic kidney disease, acute renal failure and dialysis device-related research. More recently, the laboratory has focused on the utility of genetic markers in predicting susceptibility to the development of acute renal failure as well as severity of this syndrome and adverse clinical outcomes.
The laboratory is also interested in developing novel urinary biomarkers of kidney injury for the early diagnosis and timely treatment of acute renal failure and developing models of acute tubular injury. Other areas of clinical research inquiries include the utilization of administrative data for epidemiologic and health services research in acute renal failure.
