February 6, 2009: Anthony F. Cordeiro Insurance Agency named title sponsor of Saint Anne’s Hospital’s 11th Annual “Get Moving” fundraising walk
Fall River, MA – Nearly 2,000 community members, patients, and Saint Anne’s Hospital employees celebrated the preliminary results of the hospital’s 11th annual community fundraising walk for cancer care on May 16 at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, Fall River.
With the Anthony F. Cordeiro Insurance Agency as the event’s title sponsor, this year’s “Get Moving Walk” has, to date, netted an all-time high of more than $157,000 in support of Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Care. The program includes comprehensive hematology/medical oncology and radiation therapy services at the Hudner Oncology Center in Fall River, with additional radiation and support services in Dartmouth, MA, radiation oncology consultation services in Newport, RI, and hematology/medical oncology consultation services at The Truesdale Clinic, Fall River. Patients at all locations also have access to national clinical trials through the National Cancer Institute and Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare; numerous patient and family education and support programs; free health screening activities; and community and professional education.

Since its inception in 1999, the annual Get Moving walk has raised more than $940,000 for Saint Anne’s cancer care program. Kyra Cordeiro, of Fall River, and Karyl Benoit, oncology outreach coordinator at the hospital, have co-chaired the event for the past ten years. They said that the event’s steady growth illustrates the community’s increasing reliance on, and support of, the region’s premier comprehensive cancer program.
“Outstanding medical care, advanced technology, and important support services have been the hallmarks of Saint Anne’s cancer program for more than 30 years,” Cordeiro said. “Yet these would not be as meaningful if they weren’t provided by caring professionals who truly understand what it means to undergo cancer treatment. The team of almost 100 doctors, nurses, therapists and other cancer professionals truly distinguishes Saint Anne’s cancer program. Just by what they do, they inspire people, even in tougher economic times, to support it however they can.”
“There were so many walkers and so many wonderful stories of success and hope,” said Benoit. “People walked individually, formed teams, supported and encouraged other walkers, and really created a spirit of hope and optimism. No matter what their role, we’re so grateful to all who took part in this year’s walk. Each and every gesture has made a real differe
nce.”
Both Cordeiro and Benoit stress that all walker proceeds from the Get Moving walk directly benefit patient programs and services.
“Get Moving is unique because we guarantee that donations stay right in the community to benefit local patients,” said Cordeiro. Benoit likewise notes that past proceeds have made important cancer services, such as radiation therapy equipment, possible. “Thousands of patients have truly benefited from Get Moving proceeds, right from the beginning,” she said.

Fall River, MA – Saint Anne's Hospital is proud to announce the Anthony F. Cordeiro Insurance Agency, of Fall River, as the title sponsor of the 11th Annual “Get Moving” community fundraising walk on May 16 at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, 251 Stonehaven Road, Fall River. The agency’s $10,000 investment as title sponsor represents the largest in support of this year’s walk to benefit Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Care Program.
Get Moving is a grassroots, community fundraising effort founded in 1999 by community members, hospital employees and patients to help advance world-class cancer care in this region. In ten years, the walk has raised more than $780,000.
“The Anthony F. Cordeiro Insurance Agency has been a proud sponsor of the Get Moving walk since its inception,” said Anthony F. Cordeiro, of Fall River, agency owner and president. “This year, we are especially excited and proud of assuming the position of title sponsor. The Hudner Oncology Center, with its state-of-the-art services, touches the lives of many in our community, and it is our sincere hope that, in partnering with Saint Anne’s, we can broaden the reach of the Get Moving walk.”
Funds raised through this year’s walk will support the hospital’s $5 million investment in technology and facility enhancements at the Hudner Oncology Center in Fall River, and $21 million investment in the construction of a state-of-the-art radiation center on Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth. These investments will enable Saint Anne’s Hospital to continue its commitment to providing the region with the same level of care found at major academic cancer centers in Boston and provided locally by radiation and medical oncology experts, including radiation oncologists who are members of the faculty at Harvard Medical School and affiliated with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
This year’s Get Moving committee has expressed great enthusiasm for expanding the walk to benefit the latest expansion of the hospital’s cancer care program in Dartmouth. Co-chaired by Karyl Benoit, of Swansea, and Kyra Cordeiro, of Fall River, the committee includes hospital employees, employees of the Cordeiro Insurance Agency, members of the business community, and other interested members of the community.
