Cardiac Rehabilitation

Lifestyle modifications, including regular exercise, stress management, and a heart-healthy diet, are key in the successful treatment of heart disease.

At Saint Anne's Hospital, our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program staff understand that recovery from a heart attack or heart surgery can be difficult. Our dedicated, specially trained team provides a safe, caring environment with individual attention to help you return to a normal, more rewarding lifestyle.

A regular exercise program can make the heart work more efficiently. In our medically supervised program, individuals will learn how to reduce their risk of further cardiac problems through changes in lifestyle while increasing their fitness through a personalized monitored exercise program.

Program Description
Cardiac Rehabilitation group sessions are held three times per week at Saint Anne's Hospital, and include:

  • individualized exercise prescription and program
  • education sessions on risk factor modification
  • cardiac monitoring during exercise
  • personalized counseling as needed
  • patient-to-patient support

Each participant's progress is evaluated on a continuing basis and coordinated with his or her personal physician's plan of care.

Facility
Program participants meet and exercise in an air-conditioned exercise suite located at the hospital. The facility features free weights, treadmills, stationary bicycles, stairs, arm ergometers, and rowing machines. Saint Anne's Hospital is conveniently reached by public transportation, and free valet parking is available for program participants.

The Cardiac Rehab Team

  • A cardiologist serves as the medical director of the program.
  • Cardiac nurse specialist monitor the exercise sessions and assess, coordinate, and provide education on lifestyle changes.
  • An exercise physiologist provides exercise evaluation and management.
  • A registered dietitian conducts an initial individual assessment as well as followup regarding changes in dietary habits.
  • A licensed social worker provides counseling in stress identification and stress management for groups and individuals.

Eligibility
Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program welcomes all persons who have recently had:

  • a heart attack
  • angina
  • heart surgery
  • angioplasty
  • stent placement

All participants must be referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program by their physician and undergo a monitored exercise test before entering the program.
