Pediatrics

No one is more vulnerable than a child in need of medical attention. No one is more scrutinizing or driven than parents in search of the best health care for their child. With this in mind, Norwood Hospital has raised the bar to offer pediatric services that are more comprehensive than most community hospitals.

We provide around-the-clock pediatric emergency, newborn, and inpatient care for the children of our community. Hospital services are provided by board-certified/eligible Children’s Hospital Boston pediatricians who have trained in some of the finest institutions in the country, including Boston Children's Hospital, Boston Medical Center and Hasbro Children's Hospital.

If a child is in need of emergency medical attention through our ED, he/she may be seen by an attending pediatrician (not a resident or physician-in-training) in addition to experienced emergency physicians and nurses. This 24-hour availability of a pediatrician in the ED is an exceptional service that is not often offered in community hospitals. Pediatricians work with ED physicians to ensure optimal care is provided to all pediatric patients, from routine emergent care to trauma care.

Pediatric emergency services are provided in a separate section of the main ED to provide a more private environment to care for children. Sheltered from the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced ED, children are less fearful of the ED experience. The area has a dedicated nursing and physician staff that is sensitive to the special needs of children and their parents. Exam rooms are equipped with televisions to offer children some distraction from their discomfort. A private waiting room adds to the friendly environment of the unit.

Pediatricians are available 24 hours a day to care for children in our specially dedicated pediatric inpatient section, and are available around the clock to consult with the child's primary care doctor or surgeon. We have created a very supportive, family-oriented environment that reassures, comforts, and nurtures every child. Pediatricians are also on hand around the clock to assist obstetricians with caring for mothers and newborns through attendance at high-risk deliveries and Cesarean births, caring for sick and critically ill newborns, and in preparing mother and baby for discharge to ensure a smooth transition home.

We offer specialty services through on-site appointments with the well-respected Children's Hospital physicians. This unique collaboration offers specialty care in cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology and pulmonology.
