Specialized Care and Treatments

Our Cancer Center treats all forms of cancers and offers a variety of treatments and specialized care without the need to travel far.

  • Medical Oncology

Our team of physicians includes nationally-recognized medical oncologists who oversee patient treatment and chemotherapy. Team members are active in cancer research and treat the full range of cancers, with particular expertise in lung cancer, hematology (disorders of the blood, bone marrow and lymph notes) and breast cancer.

  • Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, the treatment of cancer with anticancer drugs, is available daily at the Cancer Center’s chemotherapy. In partnership with Good Samaritan Medical Center, the clinic is staffed with oncology certified nurses and a full-time pharmacist who serves as a resource to staff and patients.

  • Radiation Oncology

Radiation oncology at the Cancer Center features the most up-to-date treatment options and equipment. This includes intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), which delivers radiation to tumors with pinpoint accuracy, avoiding critical organs and reducing side effects. This form of cancer therapy is used to treat nearly 60 percent of cancers and may be used in combination with surgery and chemotherapy. Also offered is brachytherapy treatment, known as seed implantation, used especially for prostate cancer.

  • Surgery

Surgery may be recommended for diagnostic purposes and to treat specific types and stages of cancer. Our oncology surgeons work as a team with medical oncologists and other healthcare professionals, along with patients, to determine which course of action is appropriate.

Clinical Trials

Cancer research trials are key to advances in the cure for cancer. The Norwood Hospital Cancer Center , in affiliation with St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, participates in several national cancer research trials, including the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP). Clinical trials allow our Cancer Center to aid in research and provide our patients an opportunity to participate.
