Center for Behavioral Medicine
The Center for Behavioral Management is a 47-bed, acute care, short-term stabilization program that provides inpatient psychiatric care for voluntary and involuntary patients 16 years of age or older. Based on need, patients are admitted to one of two secure units.
Our specialized psychiatric services include:
Latino Bicultural Track
This program offers inpatient services designed to meet the needs of Latino adults with psychiatric disorders. Individual, group and family therapy is available in both English and Spanish. Under the direction of an attending psychiatrist, we plan treatments according to the needs of each patient. Our staff includes clinicians from the Greater Lawrence Mental Health Center, who provide group leadership and assist in the delivery of coordinated aftercare services. We accept both voluntary and involuntary admissions 24 hours per day.
Dual-Diagnosis Assessment Track
This program is for patients who struggle with mental illness and chemical dependency. Patients receive simultaneous treatment for both problems. We provide education on substance abuse and addiction, as well as psychotherapy and group therapy on family and women's issues. Alcoholics Anonymous programs are available, as well as groups dealing with self-esteem, guilt and shame. Patients receive medication education and learn about alternative therapies such as stress reduction and relaxation techniques. Family involvement is encouraged. Group therapies are designed to help concerned family members understand the complexities of these illnesses.
Electroconvulsive therapy, or ECT, is a well-established, safe and accepted medical procedure for the treatment of mental and emotional conditions. The center works with other health care facilities, such as nursing homes and other hospitals, to make these services available to patients from other settings.
The center provides holding beds for adults who need continued assessment and treatment in a secure environment for up to 24 hours. Treatment includes assessment and monitoring by staff psychiatrists and a multidisciplinary treatment team, including social workers, nurses and other therapists. Admissions are accepted 24 hours per day.
